If you're suffering from clogged pores and sporting a "glow" that borders on "greasy," it's time for a summer skincare overhaul. I've got you covered with these five picks that won't break the bank.
MUAC Alpha Hydroxy/Beta Hydroxy Cleanser
Combining exfoliating glycolic acid (8%) with oil-soluble salicylic acid (3%), tea tree oil, and peppermint, this fresh-smelling facial wash pulls double duty to smooth skin and minimize the appearance of pores. I scored this as a sample the last time I ordered MUAC's Micro Polish and fell in love. Since we tend to be exposed to the sun more often this time of year, it's best to refrain from intensive peeling treatments. Instead, use this three times a week in the evening - but not before you've thoroughly removed your makeup with a cleansing oil. Ideal for normal to oily skin types.
Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask
A bit gimmicky? Perhaps. But this mask is so much fun to use, you'll forgive yourself for buying into the hype. Charcoal powder absorbs dirt and oil, matcha powder delivers antioxidant benefits, and carbonic acid provides the fizzy effects. Expect a squeaky-clean feel, minus uncomfortable tightness. Available here.
Mizon Original Skin Energy Collagen 100
Catching some rays may boost your mood, but photo-aging is a real bummer. Sun exposure breaks down collagen, the protein responsible for maintaining skin's elasticity (hello, wrinkles). Cover your bases with an SPF of 30 or higher (see below) and this potent collagen serum. Don't be fooled by the thick texture: you won't feel this fast-absorbing skin booster on your face, even when temperatures are soaring. If you're not already familiar with Mizon, check them out: the brand was spearheaded by researchers from another (much pricier) Korean favorite - Amore Pacific. The Snail Ampoule is another gem!
L'Oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+
Olive-skinned girls, take note of this tinted SPF 50+. Oil-free and feather-light, this potent UVA/UVB sun protector offers a kiss of skin-perfecting coverage. While I wouldn't classify this as a true BB cream, it blends imperceptibly, making it a go-to for days that call for a polished complexion in minutes. Bonus: it wears AMAZINGLY well under loose powder foundation (for reference, I wear this under Jane Iredale in Golden Glow) - so well, you can go ahead and skip the primer.
Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying Makeup Setting Spray
Matte-yet-glowing: this description was once the proverbial unicorn of complexion goals. Achieving that lit-from-within skin is a tall order, and Boscia delivers with this revolutionary spray. White charcoal mattifies, cucumber extract refreshes, and antioxidant-rich black tea guards against free radical damage. Don't be put-off by the milky appearance - this mist does its job without a trace of white residue. Tip: keep it in the fridge for maximum refreshment - the perfect summer skin pick-me-up is just a spritz away!
As always, opinions are my own, and I'm not affiliated with any of the brands mentioned above. I hope you love these summer skin-savers as much as I do!
Enjoy your summer. Enjoy your life!
