Piper’s Kilt of Inwood

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who agree this is the home of the best burger, ever, and those who haven’t been yet.  If I’m eating a burger you can bet your bun it’s at the Piper’s Kilt.  Get the Eastchester with a side of Russian dressing, and thank me later.

Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices

This is the stuff Long Island summers are made of.  There are only about nine million flavors to choose from between the cream and water varieties (mild exaggeration).  Get creative with a size large and don’t forget to tip.  Stay cool!

Flushing Main Street

I could endlessly wax poetic about the Malaysian, Mongolian, Korean, and Vietnamese eats that are yours for the sampling in New York’s “real” Chinatown.  Bring cash and an open mind to the end of the 7 line and discover it for yourself.

Taverna Kyklades, Astoria

Go hungry and be prepared to wait for the best Greek food in a sea of options.  The grilled octopus is a must-have, and the Galaktoboureko puts my Cypriot grandma’s version to shame.

Stewart’s Shops

A trip to NY’s capital region is incomplete without a Stewart’s cone.  Do yourself a flavor and order up a double scoop of this Saratoga-based institution’s award-winning frozen treat.  Mint Cookie Crumble + Peanut Butter Pandemonium = pure bliss.
